Roots in the Tunnel

A Car Wash History Lesson

Did you know the Accutrac™ 360 was originally designed as a Tunnel Machine? After successfully installing our 360-t, we looked at our personal In-Bay Automatic washes and thought, “why couldn’t we apply this to an IBA?” And so began the development of our 360-i. What we weren’t aware of are the advantages of building our tunnel machines first. What advantages are these? Glad you asked!

Typically, our tunnel customers (360-t) wash between 100,000 to 300,000 cars per year. Because of this throughput, we’ve been able to constantly monitor wear items. As a result, issues that would typically take an IBA manufacturer decades to discover, we can discover in less than 1 year. At the time of writing, we have plenty of machines with over 1 million cars washed. When it comes to vehicle cleanliness, wear, reliability, faults, and maintenance, this data is invaluable. In case you didn’t know, our IBA machine (360-i) is essentially the same machine as our Tunnel Machine (360-t). They are different only in dimension, logic, and fluid distribution. We don’t use any cheaper or compromised parts on our IBA 360-i.

Not knowing it at the time, this has been a huge advantage and welcome unplanned strategy that we wouldn’t change in retrospect. The high performance advantage of a busy tunnel has led us into where we are to this day with our IBA 360-i machines. On the inverse side of things, even our IBA 360-i has led to Tunnel machine development as well. Our continual temperature monitoring, heating of junction boxes, venting, and other corrosion resistant methods due to temperature fluctuations (more prevalent in and IBA), have been applied to our Tunnel Machines too.

While ultra reliability, cleaning power, and throughput has always been at the top of our priorities, building one machine that is installed in two different environments has been an incredible advantage for us. We can partially thank all of that power, performance, and reliability, from both machines being able to learn from each other.

The Water Wars Love it or hate it, resources are a hot subject right now, and rightfully so. As prices soar across the globe for water/sewer, electric, and gas, the search for more resource friendly processes and equipment has become a major focus, not only across the carwash industry, but everywhere, in general. We get a lot of questions about how water efficient our equipment is. And, as is our tradition, we love to share real-world numbers and facts to back up our claims. From its design inception, the Accutrac 360-i was made to use much less resources than its competition. Let's take a look at some statistics from a site setup similar to what we suggest.
